Born January 3, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois passed away surrounded by the love of his family Monday, October 22, 2018 in his Dexter, Michigan home.
Michael married Helen Volk in Chicago, IL, July 11, 1953 and together they moved to Michigan in 1969 where they raised three daughters.
Michael retired from his supervisor position with Owens-Illinois Inc. after 30+ years. He was a member of St. Joseph Church of Dexter, MI (26 years), St. Brendan’s Catholic Church of Clearwater, Florida (15 years), Knights of Columbus and Navigators in Florida.
In his retirement Michael and his wife Helen enjoyed traveling and spending winters in their Florida condo. Michael was an energetic hardworking man, constantly doing yard work, working on his rental properties, assisting the church with projects and always being involved in his grandchildren’s lives.
Michael is survived by his wife of 65 years Helen, children; Linda Szczygiel, Sally (Jim) Hoeft, Susan (Leon) Moore, grandchildren; Hilarie (Abe) Yoffe, Jacob Szczygiel, Brian (Meghann) Hoeft, Kevin (Joan) Hoeft, Lisa (Tim) Romelhardt, Christopher Knight, Scott Moore, step-grandchildren; Garrett (Annmarie) Moore and John Moore. He is also survived by six great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents Michael and Agnes Sojka and his three brothers Richard, Edmund, and Donald.
In honor of Michael Sojka a visitation took place Sunday, October 28, 2018, with a scripture service from the Nie Funeral Home (3767 W. Liberty Rd. Ann Arbor, MI), a funeral mass took place October 29, 2018 from the St. Joseph Village Catholic Church (7870 4thSt. Dexter, MI).
