Peggy Joan (Ratliff) Blankenship, born on October 11, 1937, in Richlands, Virginia, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2024, in Pinckney, Michigan, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s. She was 87 years old.
The eldest of six children born to George and Marcella (Hill) Ratliff, Peggy graduated as Salutatorian from Richlands High School in 1955. She married Kenneth Blankenship on August 31, 1957, in Lebanon, Virginia. Together, they moved to Dexter, Michigan, where they built a life filled with love and cherished memories in their little white house on Fourth Street—fondly remembered for its big black pot in the front yard and its welcoming presence for family gatherings.
Peggy was an avid gardener whose vibrant flowers brought joy to neighbors and passersby. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her family as she ran a daycare from her home. The bonds she formed with the children she cared for endured through the years, with many returning to visit her and share stories of their own families. Her refrigerator was adorned with photos of these beloved children—a testament to the lasting impact she had on their lives.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Randy (Carolynn) Blankenship, Kimberly (Michael) Funk, and Amy (Jonathan) Rogers; her grandchildren: Chelsea (Christopher) Buford, Breanne (Christopher) Beaupre, Ryan (Ruth) Funk, Jordan (Lance) Bloom, Morgan Rogers, Aidan Rogers, and Breanna Rogers; as well as her great-grandchildren Hailey Taylor, Braden Buford, Mackenzie Buford, Isaac Funk, Emma Funk and
great-great-granddaughter Evanora Taylor.
Peggy is also survived by her siblings Judy Arnold, Teresa (Terry) Bemis, and Michael (Kathy) Ratliff; along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Blankenship; her parents George and Marcella Ratliff; and brothers Jay Ratliff and David Ratliff.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Kim Hughes and the Hughes Care Home staff for their exceptional care. A visitation will be held at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad Street, Dexter, MI. January 11, 2025 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 2 p.m.
