The Saline boys’ basketball team had a rough go against Ann Arbor Pioneer Friday night falling 51-31.
The Hornet offense never got on track, scoring just one point in the first quarter and nine points in the half, falling behind 19-9 at the break.
Pioneer scored the first seven points of the third to blow the game wide open and led 31-14 after three.
Saline tried to rally in the final period, going on a 9-0 run, but it wasn’t enough as Pioneer put the game away.
Griffin Yaklich led the Hornets with nine points, while Evan Turner added eight.
Saline rallied from an 11-point halftime deficit to defeat Dexter 38-30 in a SEC crossover game last week.
It was a tale of two halves as Dexter dominated the first half with the help of a 13-2 run to take a 21-10 halftime lead.
As bad as the first half was for the Hornets, the second was a complete opposite.
The Hornets outscored the Dreadnaughts 13-4 in the third to cut the lead to 25-23 after the third period.
A pair of free throws tied the game at 28 and the Hornets went on a 7-2 run to close out the game and pull off the win.
Yaklich led the Hornet with 13 points, while Trevor Arico chipped in with 10.
