The Saline boys’ track team had a strong showing at the Division 1 state finals Saturday, coming home with a third-place finish. The girls came home in 28th out of 56 schools.
The boys’ finished with 37 points, behind first-place East Kentwood with 61 and Ann Arbor Pioneer with 39.
The Hornets were led by the second-place finishes of Eric Harris in the pole vault and the 4×800 relay team of Anthony DeKraker, Cam Bacarella, Joshua Cook, and William Downey.
Harris set a personal record of 16’6” in the pole vault on his way to the second-place finish.
DeKraker also earned all-state honors by finishing third in the 1600 and fifth in the 800.
Christopher Chuparkoff was fourth in the 400 to earn All-State honors and was part of the 4×400 relay team that finished fourth along with Winford Walker, Jack Fenelon, and Jacob Stuck.
Other state participants were 4×100 relay team of Harris, Walker, Jamari Harris-Pryce, and Nicholas Patteri that finished 16th, Harris 17th in the long jump, and Max Schneider 22nd in the pole vault.
Lauryn Hunt earned all-state honors for the girls in the 400 by finishing in fifth place. She was also part of the 4×200 relay team that finished seventh along with Emily Cook, Amera Boyd, and Suzanne Chuparkoff.
The 4×800 relay team of Emma Cummings, Kayla Fortino, Rebecca Cantrell, and Ella Woehlke finished 22nd.
