The Saline boys’ and girls’ cross country teams both came home with second place finishes at the D1 Regional at Lake Erie Metro Park and qualified for the state finals at Michigan International Speedway Saturday.
Both teams came in second behind state power Ann Arbor Pioneer.
The boys finished with 58 points, while number one ranked Pioneer dominated with 19.
Anthony DeKraker led the Hornets with a second place finish in 16:08.
Jevin Nishioka was 11th in 16:30, followed by Joshua Cook 13th in 16:35. Simon Pfeiffer was 17th in 16:49, Will Downey 19th in 16:52, Aidan Delfuoco 20th in 16:54, and William Minnette 32nd in 17:13.
The girls came up just short of knocking off Pioneer. They finished with 51 points, just two behind Pioneer with 49.
Jessi Larson came home with the Regional title win with a time of 17:50.
Kayla Fortino was sixth in 19:09 and Rebecca Cantrell 10th in 19:28.
Juliana Romero finished 16th in 19:54, Nicole Dillman 18th in 19:56, Emily Cummings 20th in 20:03, and Ella Woehlke 22nd in 20:06.
The teams will run at MIS Saturday. The girls will run at 2:10pm and the boys 3:30pm.
