Saline Field Hockey Downs Dexter 2-1 (With Pictures)

In a non-divisional match-up with Dexter last week the Saline field hockey team topped Dexter in a game that was a warm-up for the upcoming state tournament.

The teams played a regular timed game and then played a 10 minute overtime period and a shootout to prep for the playoffs.

The Hornets came out on to 2-1 in the regularly scheduled game.

The teams battled back and forth throughout and the game wasn’t decided until Hannah Jarvie scored with five minutes left in the game. Bridgett Skelly had the other goal for Saline. Eva Doorlag was stellar in net with nine saves, including stopping five Dexter corners.

The Hornets defeated Detroit Country Day 2-0 earlier in the week.

Erin Reilly scored on a corner with assists to Skelly and Jarvie. Eight minutes later, Jarvie made it 2-0 with assists to Emi Maloney to Ali Groth.

The Hornets wrapped up the week with a 3-0 win over Grand Rapids Forest Hills Saturday.

Reilly, Jarvie and Maya Prasad scored first-half goals and Julia Bentley made some big saves to earn the shutout in net for Saline.

The Division 1 state tournament will start October 18 with the state championship game being played in Dexter Saturday, October 27. The Hornets will host the state semifinal games Thursday, October 25.
