The Saline girls’ basketball team kicked 2018 off with a high note, defeating Traverse City West 49-36 Saturday, January 6.
The Hornets used a big second half to pull away and pick up the win.
Saline took a 16-12 lead after one, but West battled back to tie the game at 22 at the half.
A huge third quarter by Saline saw them outscore Traverse City 18-6 and take a 40-28 lead after three.
West tried to make a run in the fourth, but the Hornets held on in the end and outscored them 9-8 to seal the win.
Nicole Sweetland led the team with 12 points and six rebounds while Ella Stemmer added nine points and four rebounds.
Kelsey Alexander contributed eight points, four rebounds and three steals, while Brooke Bauer added to the cause with seven points, five rebounds and three steals. Erin Reilly grabbed three rebounds and finished with six points as well.
