Saline Girls’ Lacrosse Advances to Regional Semifinals

The Saline girls’ lacrosse team continued its late season surge and rolled past North Farmington 20-4 in the D2 Regional quarterfinals in Farmington May 21.

The win is the Hornets eighth in a row and 12th in their last 13 games to improve to 14-4 overall.

Saline advances to the regional semifinals Tuesday to face Father Gabriel Richard for a chance to advance to the final eight.

The game was close early with Farmington taking an early lead, but Carly Pufpaf tied it up at one.

Nora Stevenson found the net to make it 2-1 after one period and Kate Aeschliman opened the second with a goal for a 3-1 Hornets lead.

Maddie Nishioka followed with a goal to make it 4-1, but North Farmington answered with a pair of goals to cut the lead to 4-3.

Lucy Sweeny would make it 5-3 when she crossed in front of the net and fired into the back corner for a two-goal lead and the Hornets dominated from there, outscoring North Farmington 15-1 the rest of the way.

Pufpaf had a huge game with six goal to lead the Hornets scoring.

Aeschliman and Nishioka finished with four goals each, while Ayla Stager found the net twice. Stevenson, Sam Wawzysko, Anna Shingle, and Sweeny scored one goal each for Saline.
