Saline Girls’ Lacrosse Season Ends in Regional Semifinals

One of the best Saline girls’ lacrosse seasons in history came to a tough end Tuesday night when the Hornets fell to Ann Arbor Father Gabriel Richard 18-12 in a high scoring affair in Farmington.

The Hornets season ended with a 14-5 overall record and saw Saline claim the SEC title.

Saline fell behind early against FGR with Ayla Stager and Lucy Sweeney scoring first period goals, but the Hornets trailed after one.

The Hornets got hot early in the second with a pair of goals by Sweeney and the second of the game for Stager to go along with a goal by Maddie Nishioka, but FGR closed out the half strong and led Saline 10-6 at halftime.

Nishioka opened the second half with her second of the game, but the Irish scored twice for a 12-7 lead.

Nora Stevenson found the net and Nishioka scored two more, but the Hornets still trailed FGR 14-10 after three periods.

The teams traded goals to open the fourth with Nishioka finding the net for her fifth goal of the night.

Gabriel Richard answered one again before Nishioka finished her big night with another goal to make the final 18-12.

Nishioka led the Hornets with a big six goal night. Sweeney finished with three goals, Stager two goals, and Stevenson one goal.
