A long road trip to Traverse City did not slow the red hot Saline girls’ basketball team as the Hornets came home with a pair of impressive wins and a 7-0 overall record on the season.
The Hornets opened the weekend by using a big second and third quarter to pull away from Traverse City West for a 61-42 win.
West held tough for one quarter as the Hornets built a 13-11 lead after the first, but from there it was all Saline.
The Hornets outscored TCW 18-8 in the second quarter to make it 31-19 at the break and continued to pour it on in the third with an 18-7 run for a comfortable 49-26 lead after three.
West outscored Saline 16-12 in the fourth, but it was too late.
Ella Stemmer led the Hornets with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Steffi Bentley chipped in with 12 points, while Nicole Sweetland added 11. Maddy Welch and Erin Reilly scored five each, Leeya Lawson and Sophie Gasparovic four apiece, Fiona Morcom three, Liz Sekerak two, and Kelsey Alexander one.
The Hornets made it a sweep of the weekend by trouncing Traverse City Central 67-27 Saturday.
Saline jumed to a quick 16-6 lead after one and extended to the lead to 31-14 at the half and never looked back.
Stemmer had a monster game exploding for 31 points.
Sweetland finished with 11 points and five steals, while Welch had seven points. Alexander and Gasparovic finished with four eaach, Bentley with two points and three blocks, Morco, Reilly, Sekerak, and Emily Wilczynski two each.
The Hornets return to action Friday night when they travel to Bedford for a battle of the SEC Red unbeaten. Saline will enter the match at 7-0 and Bedford is 6-0 on the season.
