The Saline boys’ golf team had another strong showing at The Derby at the Polo Fields in Ann Arbor last week by finishing in second place at the Invitational.

The Hornets finished with a score of 315, second only to a strong Grand Rapids Christian team with 301.

Zeb Siegel fired an 18-hole round of 76 to finish fourth overall for the Hornets.

Harper Hummel shot a strong round of 78 and Benjamin Holloway was right behind with 79.

Will Winslow shot 82 and Haidren Stewart finished with 88.

Saline had a second team go to the event that finished eighth with a round of 350.

Keegan Cahill led the way with an 83, while Charlie VanHaaften shot 86. Ryan Friedholm shot 90, Eric Friedholm 91, and Micah Gray 92.

” I was also very proud of this group of guys as they have been working hard and they are getting better.  The course was very challenging, but they all had some great moments which will help them in the future,” Coach Debbie Williams-Hoak said.

The Hornets sent another squad to Clinton Saturday and Saline came home with a first-place finish.

Saline finished with a team score of 321 to beat out Clinton with 331.

VanHaaften shot 75 to lead the Hornets. Peyton Widen shot 79, Ryan Friedholm 82, Peyton Cundiff 85, and Jack Boyle 88.

Saline 2 finished in fifth with a 355.

Samir Sankaran shot an 83 to lead the team. Carter Ennis shot 87, Jack Derksen 89, Lucas Bohl 96, and Jace Woodrel 101.

” What a great performance by the team.  The guys were coming off a strong performance on Friday and Saturday, things came together for many of them.  It was so great to get the win, see the guys shoot career lows and have a really fun day,” Williams-Hoak said.
