The Saline-Milan girls’ water polo team saw its season end sooner than expected last week when the Chickadees fell to Walled Lake in the first round of the Grand Blanc Regional Friday night.
The Chickadees had been state-ranked all year and had finished runner-up to number one ranked Skyline in the district, but Walled Lake pulled the upset to end their season.
The offense struggled for Saline-Milan most of the night due to the pressure defense of Walled Lake, but the Chickadees were able to take a 2-0 lead into halftime with goals by Sara Mitchell and Kiera Luhrs.
Walled Lake broke through in the third with a pair of goals to tie the game up at 2-2 heading to the fourth.
Saline-Milan still could not find an answer for the defense and Walled Lake scored twice in the fourth to pull out the upset.
Lila McKenna picked up two assists for Saline Milan, while Kelsea Altevogt made 14 saves in net for the Chickadees.
