Saline Softball Clinches Share of SEC Red Title

After picking up three league wins last week, the Saline softball team clinched at least a share of the SEC Red title.

The Hornets hold a two-game lead after Dexter fell to Tecumseh Friday with two games left with Lincoln. A win in either game against Lincoln Monday clinches the outright title for the Hornets.

A big 13 run second inning made quick work of Huron in a 17-0 win in the opener.

The Hornets benefitted from 10 walks from Huron pitching in the game.

Izzy Deveau had two hits and two RBI to lead the offense. Reese Rupert had a hit and three RBI and Clara Cherry a triple and two RBI. Ashley Malinczak added a double and three RBI, while Sydney Hastings, Lily Evans, and Mackenzie Shelton each had a hit and RBI.

Karli Dorr struck out nine and allowed just one hit in the circle for the win.

Saline scored 12 runs in the first inning of the second game to take the night cap 17-2.

Hastings had two hits and an RBI, while Deveau and Evans each had a hit and two RBI. Dorr, Malinczak, and Shelton each had a hit and RBI, and Ava Stripp a hit and two runs scored.

Deveau earned the win in the circle with five strikeouts.

Saline then took down Adrian 15-0 with the help of an 11-run third inning.

Malinczak led the offense with three hits and four RBI.

Stripp added three hits and two RBI, while Dorr smacked a home run along with two hits and three RBI. Rupert chipped in with two hits and two runs scored, Harper Grambau two hits and two RBI, Cherry a hit and two RBI, and Hastings a hit and RBI.

Grambau was perfect in the circle, tossing a four-inning perfect game, striking out nine.

Saline improved to 25-5-1 overall on the season and 15-2 in the SEC Red.
