The Saline softball team saw its season end in the district finals Saturday, falling to a hard-hitting Ypsilanti Lincoln squad 8-4.
The Hornets took an early 3-0 lead in the first on a Lincoln error and a two-run single by Lindsay Rittenhouse.
Lincoln got two back in the third, but Dani Cobello came up with a clutch two-out RBI single to make it 4-2.
The Splitters bats came to life in the fifth with three runs to take a 5-4 lead.
Lincoln took advantage to a pair of walks in the sixth, adding a pair of runs to make it 7-4. The Hornets put two runners on in the bottom of the inning, but a groundout ended the threat.
A single run in the seventh for Lincoln extended the lead to 8-4 and the Hornets went out in order to end the game.
Cobello finished with two hits and an RBI, while Maddie Sheldon had two hits and scored a run. Rittenhouse finished with a hit and two RBI and Kelsey Alexander a hit and run scored.
The Hornets reached the finals by beating Ann Arbor Pioneer 10-0.
Saline jumped to a quick 7-0 lead with four in the first and three in the second and cruised to the five-inning win.
Emma Schwartzenberger led the offense with three hits and two RBI. Alexander and Brooke Bauer each had a pair of hits and two RBI, Shelton a hit and two RBI, Ashley Heren and Isabella Darmos a hit and RBI each, and Cobello a hit and two runs scored. Alex Pace earned the win, striking out one and allowing five hits.
