Saline Softball Has Busy Week

The Saline softball team had a busy week as the Hornets won four of six games to improve its season record to 5-3 overall.

The Hornets opened the week with a 9-4 win over Adrian. Saline took an early 4-0 lead only to have the Maples rally and cut the lead to 5-4 after five. The Hornets put the game away with four in the sixth.

Lindsay Rittenhouse had three hits and scored three runs, while Isabella Darmos had two hits and three RBI to lead the offense. Kelsey Alexander had two hits and an RBI, Brooke Bauer two hits and two RBI, and Emma Schwartzenberger three hits.



Alex Pace struck out nine for the win.

Saline then split a doubleheader with Bedford to open SEC Red play, dropping the opener 5-2 and winning the second 11-1.

Alexander smacked a homerun and finished with three hits and an RBI to lead the offense. Schwartzenberger added two hits and Makenzie Mason and hit and RBI.

A six-run second inning blew the second game open as the Hornets cruised to the win.

Schwartzenberger collected two hits and four RBI, while Bauer added two hits and three RBI. Dani Cabello and Ashley Heren each had two hits and an RBI, while Darmos added two hits. Cobello struck out seven for the win.

Saline won two of three at a quad Saturday. They fell to Brighton 8-1 in the opener. Alexander led the offense with two hits.

They bounced back to beat Salem 4-3 in the second game. Salem took a 3-2 lead in the fifth, but Alexander singled home two runs in the sixth to give the Hornets the win.

Alexander finished with two hits and three RBI, while Schwartzenberger and Alex Pace each had two hits.

Saline then beat Rapid River 7-2 to finish the day.

Alexander and Heren each had three hits and an RBI, while Schwartzenberger and Marion each had a hit and RBI.

Pace earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts.
