The Saline girls’ swim and dive team had a huge day at the Division 1 State Final preliminaries at Eastern Michigan University Friday, setting the Hornets up for a top-notch finish Saturday.
The Hornets moved swimmers on to the finals in 10 of 12 events, including six championship heats.
Four swimmers qualified for championship heats in three events.
Saline was led by Maddie Luther who qualified first in the 200 free and 6th in the 500 free. She also teamed with Amelia Hayes, Kiersten Russell, and Johanna Jorgenson to qualify 2nd in the 400 free relay.
Jorgenson was second in the 100 free and 3rd in the 50 free, while Hayes was third and Russell seventh in the back.
Hayes teamed with Emma Loveland, Anna Bosinger, and Emily Laing to qualify 4th in the 200 medley relay.
Hornets that qualified for the consolation finals, but will earn big points toward a top spot are Russell 13th in the 200 IM, Loveland 16th in the 100 breast, and the 200 free relay of Luther, Laing, Bosinger, and Jorgenson 11th.
