It was a great year a season ago for the Saline volleyball team – SEC Red Division Championship, district title and an appearance in the regional final. Overall, the squad finished with a 45-8 record in 2016.

The Hornets now have high expectations and will look to improve upon their loss in the 2016 MHSAA Regional Final at Saline High School. “We will work harder this year to go further in the post season,” Head Coach Kenny Seiler said.

In a back-and-forth thriller, Saline fell 3-2 – including a 17-15 fifth set loss – to Bedford to end their playoff run in the regional title game in 2016.

Saline will return eight players from the SEC Championship squad last year. Maddie Whitfield, Emily Finkbeiner, Liz Howden and Olivia Vance return with the most game experience. The other returning players are Taylor Basler, Brianna Woods, Mickaley Monahan and Kathryn Wilkie.

The 2017 team will also boast several newcomers: Julianna Pena, Ellie Munn, Haley Blaney, Cassidy Bero and Stefanie Fletcher.

“Our SEC league should be tough this year,” Seiler said. “Many returning players for the other schools. Should make for exciting volleyball.”
