Season Preview: Manchester Boys Basketball

Disclaimer* –  Due to a miscommunication,  previews will be coming out over the next day or two. We are aware some teams have begun their seasons already.

The Manchester Flying Dutchmen Boys Basketball team comes into this year with a new head coach and similar principles.

Last year, the Dutchmen went 7-14 overall and 5-10 in the Cascades conference. They lose senior guard John Zigila, senior guard Paul Derheim, and senior forward Jason Riske.

Key returning players for the Dutchmen include junior guard Ty Horky and senior forward Devon Kelly. Junior forward Braeden Caszatt and senior guard River Spitler are two returning starters as welland junior forward Luther Westcott and senior guard Tommy Tremblay will see the court.

Mike Ahrens, a Manchester class of 1969 alum,  was hired after head coach Jake Cousino stepped down last season. Ahrens took over on July 1 this offseason.

This offseason, Ahrens has focused on installing his defense. The Dutchmen are no stranger to a full court press, but it differs slightly from what they used to do. On offense, like the past, the Dutchmen are looking to get in transition and  push the bball.

Manchester opened the season on Nov. 27 against Clinton.
