The Division 1 playoff run ended for the Dexter baseball team as second-ranked Portage Northern proved to much for the Dreadnaughts as their season ended with a 10-0 loss
Northern jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead after one inning and the Dreads tried to hold on.
It remained 4-0 until the fourth when Northern blew the game open with four more runs to make it 8-0.
Dexter’s best chance to score came in the bottom of the fourth when David Kreske singled and Evan Krolewski reached on an error with one out. Kevin DeVoogd singled to center and Kreske was held at third, the pitcher cut the throw off and picked Krolewski off at second for the second out of the inning and a strikeout ended the threat.
Northern would add a run in the fifth and one in the sixth to end the game with a 10-0 mercy.
Kreske finished with two hits to lead the offense, while DeVoogd, Nathaniel Fiegel, and Joe Horne each had one. Jacoby Haley took the loss, striking out four.
Dexter finished with a 19-14 overall record and its first district title since 2012.
