Selma’s Opal is a unique boutique shop co-founded by Kathy Lucha and her business partner, Tohni Campbell. Located in the heart of downtown, Selma’s Opal is the result of a lifelong friendship and shared creative passions of its founders.

Kathy and Tohni, who have known each other since middle school, ventured into the world of entrepreneurship after retiring from their careers. Initially, they secured a small space in a local shop, paying only $100 to showcase their products. The business grew steadily, moving to larger spaces as their venture expanded. The shop’s name, Selma’s Opal, honors their creative grandmothers—Selma and Opal—whose influences profoundly shaped their artistic endeavors.

Kathy reflects on their journey, “Tohni and I were always together, from middle school to working jobs at the same places. It was almost inevitable that we would start something of our own one day.” Their shop offers an eclectic mix of home decor and clothing, reflecting Kathy’s love for apparel and Tohni’s passion for interior design.

The supportive nature of the Tecumseh community played a crucial role during challenging times, such as the COVID-19 pandemic. Kathy appreciates the local backing that has helped sustain their business, saying, “Tecumseh does support local. They listen to you and support your ideas, which is pretty awesome.”

Selma’s Opal, with its deep-rooted personal connections and community support, continues to thrive, offering a unique shopping experience influenced by the legacy of two creative grandmothers and a lifelong friendship.
