Shirley Ann Cobb

Shirley Ann Cobb

Shirley Ann Cobb, born on April 14, 1935, in Detroit, Michigan, to Earl and Marjorie Coté, passed away peacefully at home on September 7, 2024, in Dexter, Michigan. Shirley was a woman of deep faith, and her relationship with God served as the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted, long-time member of St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ in Dexter, where she gave back to her community by volunteering in the church’s thrift shop. Her faith extended beyond Dexter as she also previously taught Sunday School at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor where she was a member for many years.

Shirley had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved to golf and swim, was adventuresome  and was known for her joyful storytelling and infectious laughter. Whether through a heartfelt conversation or a humorous anecdote, she had a way of making people feel comfortable and loved. Her family and pets were her greatest treasures, and she cherished every moment spent with them.

She was an active community member, volunteering as a Friend of the Library and hosting gatherings at her home during  the annual Dexter Memorial Day Parade. These gatherings were filled with delicious food, lively conversation, and Shirley’s captivating conversation. Shirley was a long standing member in the Bible study class at St. Andrews and took part in the beloved tradition of walking the Mackinac Bridge each year with her husband Gale. 

On September 23, 1994, Shirley married Gale Cobb at Zion Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor, and they shared 30 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they enjoyed road trips out west with their family and spending winters at their home in Bonifay, Florida, where they played cards and dominoes, were part of a vibrant church community and created  beautiful memories that will be cherished forever.

 She was predeceased by her parents, Earl and Marjorie Coté and her beloved granddaughter, Brienne Lynn Kleinschmidt.

Shirley is survived by her loving husband, Gale; her two daughters; Patricia (Rick) Chabot, Becky ( Steve) Kleinschmidt and her son; Mark ( Marga) Snyder and grandchildren,  Angela, Michael, Hadley, Gabriel, Katja, David, Dayton, Amanda and Isaiah. 

A visitation for Shirley will be held Wednesday, September 11, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Hosmer-Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 3410 Broad St, Dexter, Michigan 48130. 

A church visitation will occur Thursday, September 12, 2024 at 10:00 AM at St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ, 7610 Ann Arbor Street, Dexter, Michigan 48130. A funeral service will commence at 11:00 AM. Shirley’s burial immediately following at Saint Andrews Cemetery, 2615 Baker Road, Dexter, MI 48130.

 A time of luncheon and fellowship will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church of Christ following the conclusion of her committal service.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Shirley’s memory to St. Andrew’s Church in Dexter, Michigan, where she spent so many years giving of her time and spirit.
