Was born February 5, 1927 in Munith, MI, and peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2018.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Glenn; children Paul Larned, Melanie (Don) Moyle, Tim Hodges, Cindy (Jim Carl) Harrison; grandchildren Melissa (Layre) Pohlman, Christopher Moyle, Brian Moyle, Ashley (Justin) Kerns, Cortland Larned, Chadler Larned; several great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Rita Lee Eyerly, Rebecca Dillon, Rachel Berky, Rhoda Marx, Phillip Marshall, and Paul Marshall.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Hodges, Jr., her brothers, Winston and Elwood Rockwell, parents Byron and Grace Rockwell and her former husband Clifford Larned.
Shirley was a gifted musician and was employed by the First Baptist Church in Gregory, Michigan as their primary organist for more than 30 years. In addition, she gave piano lessons to budding young pianists in the area for many years.
She worked as a secretary for the Chelsea Community Hospital retiring in 1992 and at the United Methodist Church in Tomahawk, WI. When she and Glenn were married in 1997, she moved with him to Gallup, New Mexico to assist in his mission work with the Navajo Indian tribes located there. They relocated to Waxhaw, NC in 2016 to live with Glenn’s daughter Rhoda and her husband John.
A memorial service to honor her life will take place Friday, October 19, 2018 from the Staffan-Mitchell Funeral Home in Chelsea at 11am. The family will receive visitors beginning at 10am. Interment of her ashes will take place at a private family service following the memorial.
