A nearly 15-hour standoff in Scio Township ended with a 41-year-old resident taking his life.
In an alert sent out by the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, police said, “for over 14 hours, deputies, crisis negotiators, Metro SWAT and Michigan State Police spoke to the 41-year-old Scio Township resident and worked with his family and friends in an attempt to get him the help he needed.”
“Unfortunately, he took his own life a short time ago,” the WCSO reported just after 5 p.m.
Police and emergency responders were still on the scene as of the evening of Nov. 29.
The incident began on Thursday morning around 1:30 a.m., according to the WCSO report, when deputies responded to the 5000 block of Park Road for a felonious assault that had just occurred.
“As deputies responded it was discovered that male subject refused to come out of the home and was armed with a gun,” the WCSO said in an alert to the community.
Deputies safely evacuated a mother and her four-year-old child from the home.
