The MHSAA wrestling state tournaments kick-off tonight with the team districts Wednesday and Thursday and individual districts Saturday.
Three area teams are heavy favorites to bring home team district titles.
In Division One, Saline hosts Ann Arbor Huron and Pioneer Thursday. Huron and Pioneer will open in the semifinals with Saline waiting in the finals. Both Huron and Pioneer have struggled to fill their full roster all season.
Pinckney will host Dexter and Chelsea in Division 2 Wednesday night. Chelsea takes on the Pirates in the semifinals at 5:30, with the Dreadnaughts waiting in the finals. The Bulldogs are the favorites in the district after a 4th place finish at the SEC Finals Saturday. It would be a big upset if the Pirates knocked them off in the semis. The Dreadnaughts have struggled to fill their line-up card all season. The voids have been to much to overcome all season for Dexter.
In Division 4, Manchester will be the easy favorite at the East Jackson District Wednesday night. Both East Jackson and Grass Lake have struggled to have full line-ups all season. The Dutch open with East Jackson at 6:00 PM and will likely move on to face the Warriors in the championship.
Saline will take part in the Division 1 individual district at Novi Saturday. The district features top ranked Detroit Catholic Central and will be a tough draw for the Hornets.
The Division 2 individual district for Chelsea, Dexter, and Pinckney is at Mason Saturday. Featured teams at Mason are #2 ranked Eaton Rapids and 4th ranked DeWitt in what will be a tough district to get out of for area wrestlers.
Manchester will host the Division 4 individual district Saturday. The Dutchmen are ranked 5th in D4 and will be the highest ranked team at the district. They should move several wrestlers on to the regionals next week. Tenth ranked Springport is also at the district.
The top four finishers in each weight class at districts move on to next weeks regionals.
