The Dexter mens swim and dive team did what it needed to do in Friday’s preliminaries at the Division 2 state finals to line itself up for a shot at its third straight state title.
While the big qualifying day set up the Dreadnaughts for another title run, they still have work to do.
The Dreadnaughts took the top spot in four events Friday and will be swimming for championships in three other events.
The 200 free realy team of Nik Eberly, Tanner Sharp, Stephen Sterlitz, and Casey Dolen and the 400 free relay team of Eberly, Alex Shehab, Clayton Kinnard, and Dolen both qualified first for Saturdays Finals.
Eberly took the top quaifying spot in two events. He will start first in the 200 free and 100 butterfly.
Shehab quaified second in the 100 back, while Dolen was 4th in the 200 free and 100 free. Sterlitz starts fifth in the 50 free and 7th in the 100 butterfly, while the 200 medley relay team of Shehab, Sam Krahn, Sterlitz, and Sharp will start 4th.
Other big qualifying spots that will earn the Dreadnaughts big points in the final championship statndings went to Kinnard 15th in the 200 IM, Sharp 16th in the 50 free Shehab 11th in the 100 free, Kinnard 14th in the 100 back, and Krahn 13th and Sharp 16th in the 100 breast.
Every Dreadnaught relay team and individual that moved on to Saturday’s finals, cut times off of their state qualifying times they set during the season.
