The Dexter Area Museum Prepares To Open In May

From Carol Jones

The Dexter Area Museum will open for the season on May 4, 2018 featuring a collection of wedding attire donated to the museum by local persons.  The most complete wedding attire is from 1890, the wedding gown of Hattie Phelps and the grooms attire of Burt Kenny.

The Dexter Area Museum is located at 3443 Inverness Street in Dexter and is open on Fridays and Saturdays from 1 to 3pm beginning on the 4th and continuing until the first weekend in December.

The museum will also be hosting an Open House and Tea on Sunday, May 6 to view the period wedding gowns and attire.  The tea will begin at 3pm with information on the collection, the genealogy of families represented in the collection and history of weddings.  Light refreshments of coffee/tea and dessert will be served.  The cost for this event is $25 per person which goes to support the Museum.  Reservations can be made by calling the Museum at 734-426-2519.
