Work continues at N. Territorial and Dexter Town Hall roads in Dexter Township

Rain has extended the N. Territorial Road and Dexter Town Hall Road Safety Project. The work at N. Territorial to cut the hill there and the intersection improvements at Dexter Town Hall have been extended to June 14.

The work began at the end of February and was expected to last 10-12 weeks.

In an update on May 22, the Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) said, “Our safety improvement project at the intersection of N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd in Dexter Township has been delayed due to inclement weather.”

The WCRC said, “Heavy rainfall over the weekend caused damage to the project. Because the project is still awaiting the top layer of asphalt, the curb and gutters did not function as intended during the rain event. The contractor inspected the site earlier this week and has taken responsibility for repairing the damages. The contractor has started the repairs. They anticipate that several days of repair work will be necessary to achieve a satisfactory condition for paving. The contractor has indicated that the tentative schedule for paving the top layer of asphalt is pushed to late next week due to the repairs. Once the paving is completed, the contractor will install gravel shoulders, centerline rumble strips, and pavement markings.”

The work includes adding a Center Left-Turn Lane, Centerline Rumble Strips, Culvert Replacement, and the Hill Cut, which is just west of Dexter Town Hall.

The WCRC said, “As a reminder, the intersection of N. Territorial Rd & Dexter Town Hall Rd remains CLOSED to the traveling public. The contractor has a significant amount of work to complete before the road can be safely opened to the public. Access is only maintained for residents who live or work within the project limits. The Washtenaw County Road Commission (WCRC) will continue to send out updates as the project progresses.”
