In accordance with a directive from the State School Aid budget, Dexter Community Schools (DCS) gives a one-time payment to its “educators.”
The DCS Board of Education approved a handful of letters of agreement and a memorandum at its Feb. 23 meeting that will give employees a one-time payment provided to districts through State School Aid to increase educator compensation.
In his memo about the additional funding, outgoing DCS Superintendent Chris Timmis said:
“State School Aid Act Section 27l (MCL 388.1627l) allocated funds to be used to increase compensation for educators. The statute defines “educator” broadly to include not only teachers, but also paraprofessionals, counselors, bus drivers, and other school staff who support student learning and district operations.”
“In alignment with providing 27l allocated funds to all bargaining groups, and to recognize the contributions of our staff across all employment groups, I recommend a one-time payment of $663.09 for full-time Individual/Non-Affiliated employees and $331.55 for less-than-full-time Individual/NonAffiliated employees.”
The meeting packet included letters of agreement for the distribution of these funds for all bargaining groups as well as the memorandum regarding Individual Contract/Non-Affiliated employees. The school board approved letters of agreement with the Dexter Administrators Association (DAA), Dexter Education Association (DEA), Dexter Education Support Personnel Association (DESPA) and the West Washtenaw Bus Drivers and Monitors Association (WWBDAMA) as well as the memorandum regarding Individual Contract employees.
