Pressing for Cider

Step back in time and celebrate fall with a hands-on apple adventure the whole family will love—perfect for kids ages 4 and up!

Along the banks of the Huron River, families will discover the story of the historic hamlet of Hudson, where milling once played an important role in daily life. Then it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get involved as you learn how apples are pressed into cider using traditional techniques.

Kids will love seeing (and helping with!) the cider-making process—from apples to juice—while adults enjoy a fun blend of history, fall flavors, and seasonal traditions. The program wraps up with a delicious taste of fresh apple cider from a local mill, making it the perfect reward for a job well done.

What to Expect:
This program starts indoors, ends outside. You will be seated for the 20-minute indoor presentation. The time outside, approximately 20 minutes, will be spent at a stationary location with benches. Expect to walk less than 1/8 mile. The planned path grade is mostly flat and level with a paved surface. It is suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and adaptative walking equipment. No prior experience is necessary. Time includes group instruction and group discussion will be encouraged. A group interactive activity with instructions will be involved.
