Local chapters of the Sons and Daughters of the American Revolution honored Revolutionary War patriot Timothy Crittenden during a ceremony May 9 at Oakhill Cemetery in Saline Township.
The Huron Valley Chapter of the Michigan Society Sons of the American Revolution joined the Sarah Caswell Angell and Ypsilanti chapters of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution to dedicate a plaque recognizing Crittenden’s service during the American Revolution.
Crittenden, one of about 20 known Revolutionary War patriots buried in Washtenaw County, was born in Guilford, Connecticut. He served as an orderly sergeant under Capt. Oliver Belden in the Massachusetts militia and later as a musician under Capt. Simon Smith and Maj. Cady.
The ceremony was part of the nationwide America 250 initiative commemorating the 250th anniversary of the United States and honoring those who supported independence during the Revolutionary War.
Participants included Michigan Society SAR President Bob Craig, members of the MISSAR Color Guard, state and local DAR leaders, and Saline High School DAR Good Citizen Natalie Coughlin.
