The Dexter Lions Club and Christmas Trees are a decades-long tradition in the community. This year’s tree sale begins the day after Thanksgiving on November 28.
The tree lot next to Creekside Intermediate School at 2615 Baker Road opens that day with around 1,150 trees freshly cut and shipped from Up North. A variety of trees and sizes, including Balsam, Fraser and Douglas Firs at sizes ranging in height from four feet to nine feet as well as festive wreaths will be on display and for sale.
The tradition began in 1980 with 235 trees and has become a big fundraiser for the Lions Club. The club uses the funding to support local community service projects and causes, such as Faith In Action and Dexter family services, Dexter High School Scholarships, helping to supply eyeglasses for kids and adults, the Dexter District Library and many others. In addition, it helps support providing school supplies and books for kids.
All of the money from the tree sale goes back into the community to help.
The Lions Club said it always appreciates the community support on this project and wishes everyone happy holidays. A visit to the tree lot set up with the help of Dexter middle and high school clubs and teams along with the boy and girl scouts is a great way to kick off the season.
The lot hours that first weekend of Nov. 28-30 are 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and then after that during the week it’s open 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. and then on other the weekends of Dec. 6-7 and Dec. 13-14 it’s open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
