INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer responded to the 1500 block of S. Main Street for the report of a threat and intimidation complaint. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant, who stated that she had recently received repeated unsolicited, intimidating text messages from a telephone number that she did not recognize. The officer reviewed some of the messages that were received. The report was turned over to the investigator for any additional follow-up.

INFORMATION: While on routine patrol, an officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of S. Main Street for the report of a retail fraud in progress. Upon arrival, the officer made contact with the complainant, who stated that a customer had been observed placing items into the area of his pants, in what appeared to be an effort to conceal the items. The officer remained on scene while the suspect proceeded through the checkout lanes to pay for the additional merchandise. The officer then observed the suspect bypass all other points of sale without paying for the concealed merchandise. The officer made contact with the suspect near the exit of the building. The suspect was identified as a 71-year-old Chelsea man. The officer spoke with the suspect about the suspicions that the merchandise had not been paid for, and the suspect complied and pulled the concealed merchandise out. Further investigation revealed that an additional item was concealed in the shopping cart and had not been paid for as well. The case remains open pending warrant submission and review by the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office to determine if charges would be authorized.
