So, we are back with the roundabout idea for Dexter. Have there been traffic studies done on this that are publicly available? Perhaps TST can get them!
The DOT has an informational guide on things to consider for these. Some of the questions, and obvious answers based driving this area daily, are below:
• Do drivers stop unnecessarily at the yield point? Yes.
• Do drivers stop unnecessarily within the circulating roadway? Yes.
• Do queues from an external bottleneck back up into the roundabout from an exit road? Yes. The tunnel will be a huge bottleneck. (not to mention the lights on either end and the Main Street parking disaster)
• Are the vehicle speeds appropriate? No.
Collectively, these answers should indicate that this is just another bad idea in a string of bad ideas that will not improve the traffic flow. Can we see the data please?
Have other thoughts been given to:
1. widening the tunnel ever so to fit two full lanes
2. remove downtown parking (and expand business access)
3. make a right turn lane onto Dexter-Pinckney to keep traffic flowing https://thesuntimesnews.com/g/...
4. anything other than another roundabout that will only make things worse.
