Marcia Schlee

This post expresses the views and opinions of the author(s) and not necessarily that of The Sun Times News management or staff.

Marcia Schlee, 9/27/1941-7/1/2023, passed peacefully in her Dexter MI home after an extended infirmity, in the company of her family. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Jim Schlee, daughter Susan (Michael) Socks, and grandchildren Luca and Jonah.

Marcia graduated from the University of Michigan in 1963, and worked as an art teacher on a long-term care wing of a children's hospital. After a long period as a stay-at-home mother and community volunteer, she attended Washtenaw Community College and received an Associates Degree in Graphic Design, and worked as a freelance graphic designer.

Marcia was a member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, and spent many years as a volunteer teacher of sailing and boating classes. She was an active member and volunteer with the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, singing in the alto section of the choir, doing design and layout for the monthly newsletter, and leading a Kappi Phi chapter (a national organization of Christian women in university). She was also active with the Ann Arbor Figure Skating Club, including a term as president.

Marcia was a sailor, with most of her time spent on Lake Erie on the family sailboat. She was also an avid gardener, landscaping the Dexter home with flower beds, shrubs, and trees.

A private service will be held at a later date. Donations can made in Marcia's honor to the First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor, the Humane Society of Huron Valley, or the charity of your choosing.
