Dexter Softball Sees Season End in District Finals

The Dexter softball team saw its season end in the district final with a loss to SEC Red champion Saline Saturday.

The Dreadnaughts wrapped up the season with a 20-13 overall record and 14-5 second place finish in the Red that earned head coach Tim Kimball the SEC Red Coach of the Year for the surprising Dreadnaughts.

Dexter reached the final by taking down Ann Arbor Skyline 6-1.

The game was scoreless into the third when Clara Lamb tripled in a run to put the Dreads on the board. Lamb came home on an error and Maddie Ohlman singled home a run to make it 3-0.

Lamb smacked a home run in the fifth to make it 4-0, before Skyline got one back in the sixth to make it 4-1.

Dexter put the game away in the bottom of the sixth when Lamb smacked her second homer of the game to make it 6-1.

Roni Wilson was a force in the circle, striking out 15. She allowed six hits and one unearned run for the win.

The championship game seemed like what could go wrong, did go wrong for the Dreads as Saline put on a hitting show in a 20-0 win to end the Dreads season.

Dexter could muster just two hits against the Hornets all-state pitcher Karli Dorr. When Dexter did put the ball in play, the Saline defense came up with some clutch plays to keep the Dreadnaughts off the bases.

Saline scored two in the first and six in the second and with Dorr on the mound, that is all they would need.

Ohlman had a double and Ella Mitchell a single for the Dreads only hits in the game.
