Saline Soccer Rolls into District Finals

While it took a little longer than expected, it was Mother Nature that delayed the Saline girls’ soccer team’s first win of the 2024 playoffs and not the lack of scoring by the Hornets.

A thunderstorm rolled into Bedford just before game time and forced a one hour delay to the start, but once the Hornets took the field the game was over quickly.

Saline dominated the Mules from the start with seven first half goals and ended the game just moments into the second half on their way to a mercy shortened 8-0 win over Bedford Tuesday, April 28.

The Hornets were chomping at the bit to get going after the rain delay and it showed as seven different Hornets scored in the first half.

Sienna Snyder opened the scoring and moments later Sadie Walsh found the net to make it 2-0.

Avery Nam then knocked in a corner kick and Bella Barnes followed by knocking home a rebound for a 4-0 Hornets lead.

The goals kept coming with Ellie Warden, Laynie Tousa, and Teagan Warden all touched the twine for Saline for a 7-0 halftime lead.

The game was over quickly in the second half when Walsh made a nice move and drilled in a shot to end the game just moments into the second half.

Saline is still waiting to find out its opponent in the finals. Skyline and Pioneer had its game postponed, and it will be made up Thursday night. The winner of that game and the Hornets will meet up in the finals Saturday at 11:00 AM in Bedford.
