Douglas Alan Schrader

Douglas Alan Schrader of Jackson, Michigan, age 72, died Thursday, April 10, 2025, following an illness. Doug grew up in Chelsea, Michigan, attending both St. Mary’s School and Chelsea High School. He was born May 1, 1952, the son of Donald and Gwen (Minick) Schrader. Doug is survived by his father and siblings: Lori (Mike) Love of Meldrim, GA; Lisa (Steve) Jaqua of Ann Arbor, MI; and Daniel Schrader of Savannah, GA. He also leaves behind nephews Michael (Andrea) Swantek, Benjamin Swantek and fiancée Becky Smit, Andrew (Kate) Swantek, great nieces and nephews, his extended family the Patrick’s, and many friends. Doug was preceded in death by his wife of 28 years, Vicki (Victoria Patrick) and by his mother, Gwen Schrader.

Doug loved cars from an early age, the sportier the better. He loved driving his Mustang Boss 302 back in the 70’s. He was also passionate about bands and music. Doug was the sound mixer for many bands. Doug had a talent for mechanics, trouble-shooting, and fixing problems. He worked for Rockwell, Chelsea Industries, Edscha, and recently retired from the City of Jackson where he had many friends. He so wanted more time behind the wheel of his Mustang and to see the Sea Cruisers perform. Doug would say that he spent his happiest years when his wife Vicki was by his side. As a couple, they cared for and gave many fur babies a forever home. Doug had a very kind heart and will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at the Michigan Center Bible Church on Tuesday April 29, 11am, 150 Broad Street, Michigan Center. A luncheon will be provided by the church. Doug’s ashes will rest alongside Vicki’s at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 1425 North Elm Avenue.  Interment will be at 2pm. Memorial contributions may be made to Cascades Humane Society and to the Jackson County Animal Shelter.
