Fireworks to Return to Chelsea Fairgrounds

After a several year hiatus due to zoning regulation changes, the Chelsea fairgrounds’ annual fireworks display will return this year on June 28 from 3 – 11pm.

The fairgrounds’ team and Chelsea Rotary Club have been working with other local firework display teams and the Chelsea Fire Department to ensure a safety plan for the display and allow for an event gathering of over 500 people, which was approved by Chelsea City Council at their April 21 meeting.

“We’re trying to bring the fireworks back to the fairgrounds, where they’ve always been,” Lorna Tackwell said on behalf of the fairgrounds.

Chelsea residents spoke at the meeting to emphasize the importance of a local fireworks show for the Fourth of July.

“This year, as most of us remember from 20 years ago as kids or parents with their young ones, the fairgrounds is the home for the fireworks,” Matt McKernon, a member of the Chelsea Rotary Club, said.
