David Michael Ball

David Michael Ball, 66, died Thursday, February 11, 2025, at home after many years of suffering with multiple sclerosis. David was born on September 20, 1958, to Norma (née Wood) Ball and Ivan J. Ball in Iowa City, Iowa.

He attended public schools in Iowa City, graduating from West High School in 1976. After high school, David worked as an information technology specialist, first for a consulting company and later for Notre Dame University. As his illness progressed, he was unable to continue working but was able to live with family. He was close to his family, especially his two brothers and sister-in-law, and also enjoyed his niece, nephews, and grand-nieces and nephew.  Like his parents and brothers, David loved the outdoors, including fishing, shooting, and family campfires. He was always willing to try new foods, and among his favorites was traditional noodle kugel. David had a wonderful sense of humor and was open and interested in learning about other people, cultures, and customs.

David was preceded in death by both of his parents and his eldest brother, Edward (just four months ago). He is survived by his brother, Richard Ball, and sister-in-law, Deborah Loewenberg Ball; niece, Sarah Ball Hakala; nephews, Joshua and Jacob Ball; and grand-nephew and nieces, Owen, Emme, and Lucy Hakala; aunts, Virginia (née Bross), Mary Ann (née Waldschmidt), uncles, William and James; and many cousins.

Donations may be made in David’s memory to the Multiple Sclerosis Society (https://www.nationalmssociety.org).

A memorial service will be held later this year in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Please check www.colefuneralchapel.com for details.
