Dexter Community Schools has already started some of its Series 1 projects as part of the 2025 Bond, and there’s more to come in the coming months as work begins at various locations around the district.

With this are some details the community might need, such as access restrictions, timelines and workarounds. The school district has set up some informative web pages to answer questions.

One project is the lights at Al Ritt Stadium. This project will replace failing halogen lights with monitored LED lighting that turns on instantly, reduces light pollution for nearby homes and enables better visual effects and light shows focused on the playing field. It’s expected to be done this summer.

After the lights, the district will then turn to do other improvements at Al Ritt, including the gateway entry, secure access, bleachers, concessions and turf. Some of this work is expected to go into the next school year. This project will create a clearly visible, welcoming entrance, improve lighting and walkways for safer evening events and emergency access, and provide secure, weather-protected storage for equipment.

The impact will see the entire track and bleacher area at Al Ritt shut down for June while new lights are installed and old lights removed. The entrance, concession stand and restrooms shut down all summer.

Over at the high school, work on the new secure entrance is planned to begin June 15. This project will provide a secure and welcoming main entrance, which right now some people struggle to find. The new entrance will have a spacious lobby for events and will require visitors to enter through the main office during school hours.

The high school will also get a new weight room, with work expected to also start in mid-June. It will provide much-needed space so all athletes can use the weight room.

The main entrance will be closed during the work and the counseling hall, gym and track will be off limits all summer.

Also starting this summer, Wylie Elementary will get new classroom space that will address the school’s aging, unevenly-sized classrooms and space needs by adding new rooms that allow consistent, modern teaching spaces and improved exterior bathroom access for students, buses and field users.

At Wylie, there will be no access to the rear (south side) of the school during this summer. Another part of the work will see the construction of a new driveway, which will also lead to the area between the school and the bus hub being off limits all summer.

These are just a few of the details of the coming projects and their impact. To learn more, check out these two links:  https://www.dexterschools.org/district/2025-bond and https://www.dexterschools.org/district/2025-bond/construction.
