The Dexter Community Schools Board of Education ratified a successor agreement with the Dexter Education Association (DEA) at its June 8 meeting.
The tentative agreement (TA) with the DEA was also ratified by the DEA membership.
DCS Superintendent Ryan Bruder said overall, “this TA adds compensation for teachers, a new insurance incentive, and significant clarification of staffing, layoff, and discipline procedures.”
“As a result of the ratification of the TA, steps were given plus an on-schedule base salary increase of 1 percent for DEA employees on steps 4-13. Steps were given plus an on-schedule base salary increase of 2 percent for DEA employees on steps 15-29,” Bruder told the Sun Times News.
There was also language that provides escalating incentives for DEA members who voluntarily decline the district’s medical/health insurance during the annual open enrollment period, according to Bruder.
Other agreement details include several teacher-protection and transparency provisions were added or revised, and it also establishes clearer layoff and discipline processes.
There will be an economic reopener in 2027-2028.
