The Dexter Ringers, a local horseshoe pitching club with a rich 46-year history, is hosting a once-in-a-lifetime event—the Dexter Bicentennial Horseshoe Tournament, marking the end of an era. The tournament will take place on Saturday, June 22nd, from 1 pm to 5 pm at Horseshoe Park/1st Street Park, with registration starting at noon.
The community is invited to take part in this special commemoration of the Dexter Ringers’ legacy:
- All ages are welcome to participate, either in singles or pairs competition
- Players of all skill levels are encouraged to join, from first-timers to pros
- A tiered tournament format ensures competitors play against those of similar ability
- There is no cost to enter or play
- Every participant will receive a limited-edition commemorative Bicentennial coin (only 100 minted)
- Prizes will be awarded to the tournament winners
- Rules and guidance will be provided for those new to the game
- Spectators are welcome to bring chairs and refreshments to enjoy the fun!
The tournament is being organized by Mark Amsdill of the Dexter Ringers (markamsdill@yahoo.com, 734-320-3081).
The Dexter Ringers, founded in 1978 by Gary Klapperich, have been a pillar of the community, hosting popular horseshoe tournaments that have drawn the largest competitions in the state with over 100 players. Beyond the sport, the club has made a significant impact, raising over $325,000 for various charitable causes. Their legacy is one to be celebrated and remembered.
However, with increasing costs and operational challenges, the Dexter Ringers have made the difficult decision that 2024 will be their final year. They aim to go out in grand fashion with this Bicentennial tournament celebrating their history and the Dexter community.
“We’ve had a great run, had fun, and raised a lot of money for charity. Thank you!” – the Dexter Ringers”
