Thousands of helmets are being recalled due to a critical safety flaw that may lead to head injuries. The recall affects various models of 509 and 509 for Polaris helmets, including Tactical 3.0 and Tactical 2.0 versions, as well as those with Fidlock systems. About 201,200 units in the U.S. and 26,800 in Canada are impacted.
These helmets, manufactured in China, fail to provide adequate protection during a crash. One incident has already been reported where a rider’s helmet detached, resulting in a concussion.
Consumers should immediately discontinue use of these helmets. For those with 509 branded helmets, contact 509 for refund or replacement options. Similarly, owners of 509 for Polaris helmets should reach out to Polaris for remedies, including refunds or replacements. Both companies are providing instructions for inspecting and repairing the Fidlock chin strap webbing.
Sold online and at dealers nationwide from January 2020 to May 2025, these helmets ranged in price from $140 to $900. Teton Outfitters LLC, a Polaris subsidiary, is handling the recall. For more information, visit CPSC.gov or contact the companies directly.
