Washtenaw Community College (WCC) will convene its 57th commencement at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Eastern Michigan University’s George Gervin GameAbove Center. 

Graduates from the Fall 2023 and Winter 2024 semesters, as well as candidates from the current Spring/Summer 2024 semester, will participate in commencement. This academic year, 2,289 graduates will be awarded 3,091 associate and certificate degrees. 

Michelle Hanke of Ypsilanti will deliver the student message. Hanke will receive a Liberal Arts Transfer associate degree. 

Theresa Bucy, DNP, APN, CNE is Department Chair of the college’s Nursing Program and will deliver the faculty message. WCC’s program is one of just nine (and the only community college) to earn the National League of Nursing’s National Center of Excellence in Nursing Education designation in 2023. 

Philanthropist and entrepreneur Sean A. Duval will be awarded an Honorary Community Service Degree for his support of WCC students and the regional community. Duval is President and CEO of Golden Limousine International, a premier private luxury and executive transportation service based in the Detroit Metro Area. 

Duval has held various leadership roles in the community, including two years as Chair of the Washtenaw Community College Foundation Board. He is currently Board Chairman of the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation. His decades of community service also includes Destination Ann Arbor, A2Y Regional Chamber, Ele’s Place, Michigan Works! Washtenaw County and Michigan Works Southeast. 

Family and friends unable to attend may watch the ceremony via livestream. 

WCC will host an Honors Convocation Thursday at the EMU George Gervin GameAbove Center to recognize students with a 3.5-or-higher grade point average.
