1947 – 2026

Ron Schwartzenberger, 78, of Dexter, MI passed away unexpectedly on June 3, 2026, at his home that he built with his wife 48 years ago.

Born on October 11, 1947, in Napolean, ND, he was the son of Mike and Elvina Schwartzenberger. The family moved to Michigan in 1952, and Ron grew up in Ypsilanti and graduated from St. John’s Catholic High School in 1965. He went on to be a corporal in the United States Marine Corp, stationed in Philadelphia as a Communications Operator.

After his service, Ron began working at Motor Wheel in Ypsilanti. In 1975, a friend told him about an opening at O&W, Inc., a beer distributor, where he went on to work as a truck driver for 37 years before retiring in 2012. Beyond work, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Parish in Dexter. He spent many hours on the golf course, enjoying the game but more importantly, the camaraderie with friends and fellow Knights. Ron had a deep love for University of Michigan football and was a season ticket holder for over 50 years. Through countless sporting events, school functions and special milestones over the years, Ron was always present for his children and grandchildren.

Ron is survived by Lynn Schwartzenberger, his wife of 54 years; his son, Steven Schwartzenberger (Marisa) of Canton, MI; his daughter, Lisa Stokes (Chris) of Wixom, MI; his 4 grandchildren, Austin and Brandon Stokes, and Dominic and Ariana Schwartzenberger; and his sister, Lyla Sapsford of Wheaton, IL.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Jon Sapsford.

Services will be held on Friday, June 12 at St Joseph Country Church, 6805 Mast Rd, Dexter, MI 48130. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., with mass starting at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Disabled American Veterans at dav.org.

Ron will forever be remembered for his quick wit and contagious laugh, and his life will live on through his children and grandchildren.
