Saline City Council approved the establishment of eight subcommittees within the Davenport-Curtiss working group, a team focused on the maintenance of the historical property of the same name recently purchased by the city, at the July 13 council meeting.
“We’re attempting to try and focus on some of the areas that we believe oversight is needed, and subgroups could be able to work upon,” council member Dean Girbach said. “The intent is that one of the members of the working group will be the chair, and then hopefully either additional members of the committee, or what we’re hoping is that members of the public will be able to apply and serve on these different committees.”
The proposed subcommittees will include:
- Preservations, Protections, and Land Use
- Facilities & Grounds Oversight
- Development & Administration
- Communications, Engagement & Marketing
- Financial Oversight
- Event Planning & Volunteer Coordination
- Historical Resources and Collections
- Policies & Procedures
Girbach stated these teams were designed to focus on the most necessary aspects of the house’s future, “especially if we’re looking at creating a 501(c)(3).”
“We’re going to need more members of the community to participate in this process, and this will enable us to recruit those members of the community to serve on these subcommittees,” council member Jim Dell’Orco.
The development of the property is still in early stages, and the groups are “simply an advisory panel” according to Mayor Brian Marl, meaning any decisions regarding finances and long-term options would need to be brought to and approved by Council.
The motion approving the creation of the subcommittees passed unanimously.
