Saline City Manager Resigns

Saline City Manager Dan Swallow announced his resignation at the July 13 city council meeting after a little under a year in the position. Citing family health concerns, Swallow stated he would continue his work through Aug. 21 to ease the transitionary period that will follow his departure.

“I’ve recently assumed a greater role in the care of my mother, as well as a need to relocate to help coordinate her care,” Swallow said. “In addition, upon the passing of my father, my family has asked me to assist with selling or selling his estate, including management and sale of assets. Together, these responsibilities require substantial time, travel, and attention, making it increasingly difficult for me to maintain the level of commitment and availability that the city manager position demands.”

Several members of City Council expressed their sympathies and support for Swallow’s decision, both at the meeting and after.

“I know it was a difficult decision, and we do greatly appreciate your tenure and leadership,” Mayor Brian Marl said.

Saline will set up a transition team under the guidance of the city attorney “to meet weekly with the city manager to manage the transition and the handoff of important projects and initiatives” according to Marl. Council member Janet Dillon and Mayor Pro-Tem Nicole Rice will also assist in the delegation.

“While I’m disappointed that the circumstances will not allow me to continue my service for a longer period, I remain confident in the future of the community and direction which it is headed,” Swallow said.
