Saline Township has filled the trustee seat left vacant after Tom Hammond moved into the supervisor role in June.
The Township Board voted July 8 to appoint Gary Luckhardt as trustee during its regular meeting. The appointment came after Hammond asked to add the item to the agenda.

“As you know, last month, Jim Marion, our supervisor, stepped down, and then I was moved into that role,” Hammond said. “And so we were lacking a trustee.”
Hammond said the board had 45 days to appoint someone to the vacant seat and had spoken with potential candidates. The board then voted to appoint Luckhardt, who was sworn in during the meeting.
“Gary, welcome aboard,” Hammond said after the vote. “It’s a turbulent time right now, so we need you.”

Luckhardt was previously listed as chair of the township Planning Commission. His appointment restores the board to five members after a series of leadership changes.
Luckhardt joined the board immediately and participated in the rest of the meeting, including votes on a new public participation policy and the decision to delay action on Oracle America Cloud Services LLC’s requested Industrial Facilities Exemption Certificate until a July 14 special meeting.
The current Saline Township Board includes Hammond as supervisor, Kelly Marion as clerk, Beth Boulter as treasurer, Dean Marion as trustee and Luckhardt as trustee.
