During April, the Saline Police Department responded to a variety of calls for service involving assaults, property crimes, fraud, and traffic-related incidents. In addition, officers continued regular engagement with community members through proactive outreach and non-enforcement contacts. Key activity summaries are provided below.
Assaults and Violent Incidents
• April 2 – Assault (800 block of Michigan Ave): Officers interviewed the victim, who declined medical treatment. The suspect left prior to arrival but was contacted by phone. The case was sent to the prosecutor.
• April 9 – Assault (7000 block of E. Michigan Ave): Officers interviewed both parties. Case forwarded for prosecutorial review.
• April 12 – Assault (700 block of Valley Circle): Both individuals were interviewed at the scene. The case was sent to the prosecutor.
• April 17 – Shooting Incident (600 block of Woodland Dr): Officers responded to an altercation involving three adult females, during which one discharged a firearm. No gunshot injuries occurred. The victim was transported for minor injuries. Investigation ongoing and will be reviewed by the prosecutor.
Criminal Sexual Conduct
• April 9 – CSC Investigation (South Side): Officers conducted interviews, took the suspect into custody, and transported them to the Washtenaw County Jail. A forensic interview with the victim is pending.
Property Crimes
• April 2 – Malicious Destruction of Property (400 block of N. Maple): A resident reported a neighbor removed an outdoor camera. Both parties were interviewed. Case forwarded to the prosecutor.
• April 19 – Breaking & Entering (7000 block of E. Michigan Ave): Officers contacted two individuals staying inside a vacant building. A damaged door was located. The case was sent to the prosecutor, and the property owner is being contacted regarding potential charges.
Fraud Incidents
• Five residents reported falling victim to a phone-based scam originating from a “429” number, during which victims allowed remote access to their computers, resulting in financial loss.
• Two additional victims reported fraudulent credit card charges made by unknown individuals.
Traffic Activity
• Officers responded to ten motor vehicle crashes, including two involving injuries.
• A total of 147 traffic stops were conducted within city limits.
Youth Interaction at Millpond Park:
Officers interacted with two children at Millpond Park and joined them in a game of football. Following the encounter, the children later delivered a handmade thank-you note to the department.
Community Coffee Hour at Liberty School:
Police Chief Radzik attended a community coffee hour at Liberty School, where she spoke with parents and staff. Discussion topics included officer training related to autism, responses to calls involving children, and de-escalation practices.
Child’s Elementary Field Trip to Millpond Park:
Officers met with students from Child’s Elementary during a field trip to Millpond Park. Students spoke with officers, asked questions, and viewed police vehicle equipment, including lights and sirens. Parents and teachers were present during the visit.
“These engagements reflect the department’s dedication to fostering trust, approachability, and meaningful connections with residents of all ages,” says Communications Officer Lisa Bain. “The Saline Police Department remains committed to being visible, supportive, and community-centered throughout the city.”
Girl Scout Troop Visit and Recognition:
A local Daisy Girl Scout troop visited the police station and recognized the department as “Hometown Heroes.” During the visit, scouts provided cookies to staff and participated in a station tour, where they asked questions and learned about police operations.
“To the Girl Scouts: thank you for your kindness, your energy, and this special honor,” says Bain. “We’re grateful, we’re uplifted, and we’re smiling a little wider today.’
