Saline Softball Clinches SEC Red Title

The Saline softball team made it back-to-back SEC Red titles after sweeping a pair of games from Ypsilanti Lincoln Monday night.

The sweep gave the Hornets a 17-2 record in the SEC Red, beating out second-place Dexter at 14-5.

The Hornets took an early lead with a two-run double by Ashley Malinczak in the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Lily Evans and RBI groundout by Sydney Hastings in the second gave the Hornets a 4-0 lead and that is all they would need behind the pitching of Karli Dorr.

Dorr was dominant in the circle, allowing just one hit and striking out 12 for the win for the Hornets.

Malinczak finished with the two-run double, while Hastings and Evan each had a hit and RBI. Delaney Lee had a hit and run scored, while Clara Cherry and Izzy Deveau added one hit each.

The second game saw Reece Rupert double in a run and Malinczak single in a run in the opening inning for a 2-0 lead and it was enough behind the pitching of Deveau and Harper Grambau in a 2-1 Hornet win.

Deveau struck out five in four innings of work and Grambau slammed the door in the final three innings, allowing one hit.

Hastings collected two hits, Rupert a hit and run scored, and Malinczak a hit and RBI.

The Hornets used a big five run fourth inning to take down Trenton 8-4 in a single game Tuesday.

Cherry had a big day at the plate with three hits and four RBI to lead Saline.

Dorr had three hits and two RBI at the plate and struck out eight in four innings for the win in the circle.

Rupert and Hastings each had two hits and an RBI, Evans two hits and a run scored, Lizzie Thibeault a hit and run scored, and Malinczak one hit.

Grambau struck out five in three innings of relief work.

Saline split a doubleheader with D3 second-ranked Grass Lake Wednesday.

The Warriors scored four in the fifth and sixth in the sixth to pull away for a 10-3 win in the opener.

Rupert had three hits and an RBI, while Hastings had two hits and an RBI. Ava Stripp had a hit and RBI, while Cherry, Dorr, and Deveau had one hit each.

The Hornets used a three run fourth and four run fifth to take the nightcap 8-3.

Malinczak finished with three hits and two RBI to lead the bats for Saline. Hastings had three hits and an RBI and Rupert two hits and two RBI.

Dorr added three hits and a run scored, Stripp a hit and RBI, while Thibeault and Evans each had a hit and run scored.

Saline improved to 29-6-1 in the season.
